The game of black jack has become hugely popular in the casinos all over the world. Also called Twenty or Pontoon, the blackjack game when introduced in America was not very in the beginning. So the casinos offered many lucrative payouts to the players to popularize the game and get them to the table. Among the payouts then offered, one was the 10-to-1 payout scheme where the player gets the payout if his hand consisted of ace of spades and a blackjack , either of spades or clubs. This hand was named 'Blackjack' and the name was struck to the game.

The player starts the game by placing a bet in the betting box, at the beginning of each round. He then receives a hand of two cards. The purpose of the game is to get a higher total of cards than the dealer without going over 21, which is the busting point or breaking.
There is a variety of blackjack games played at various casinos around the world. For example the blackjack played in England is called Pontoon which is quite different from the one played in Australia or Malaysia. The American blackjack game is called Spanish 21 and is entirely different from Pontoon. Even in California the game is played with a different set of rules and is called 'Vegas Style Blackjack'.
